Greece ~ Day 3: postcard

ThroughTheSeaOfCrete

"Just this moment arrived in Amorgos, a long, thin island only ~20 miles long in the Greek Cyclades islands. As we stepped off our ferry, after a little more than six placid hours of saaaiiiiling, we were greeted by a dozen women holding up laminated books of their domatia (rooms in an old woman's house, usually cheaper) and cheap hotels. We waded through offerers that wouldn't be bargained below 20€ - about $26 US - and eventually met the smiling face of the stout, black-attired woman running Pension Amorgos. She had a 15€ place for us, but first wanted to show us her 20€ room, closer to the dock, actually 100 yards from the dock. When we saw the more "expensive" room, she asked "How many nights?" "3" we said. She put one finger to her lips in the international "shh" motion, then traced "50" for three nights on her hand. And here we sit in the Pension Amorgos, sipping free, hot rakomelo (honey wine).

XOXO - Lauren & Todd"
